Pelvic Health Physical Therapy
Relief is possible.
Maybe it's leakage when you laugh, sneeze, or run. Maybe it's pain you can't explain, during sex, sitting, or just getting through your day. Maybe it's bowel symptoms you've never said out loud to anyone. Whatever brought you here, you're not broken, and relief is absolutely possible.
At Haven PT, pelvic health physical therapy takes place through an integrated multi-system and multi-modal approach. Pelvic floor symptoms rarely show up alone, and they rarely have one simple cause.
Leakage, pain, and bowel changes can be caused by the muscles themselves, but just as often they're tangled up with things like your nervous system, your hormones, your posture, a surgery from years ago, or a birth that didn't go the way you expected.
This is why I assess your body as a whole unit not individual parts, and I utilize various treatment techniques based on what you need, not what a protocol dictates.

Kind words from a patient:
“I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for all the help and assistance you have provided me during my pelvic floor therapy at Haven PT and Pelvic Health. When my doctor first recommended it, I admit I was very reluctant, as it sounded invasive and scary. I ultimately agreed to go because I was in so much pain, feeling that I really didn't have any other options.
From the moment I met you, I felt safe, seen, and supported. I was incredibly surprised by your depth of knowledge combined with a highly intuitive sense, which you utilize so skillfully in your therapy sessions. Your kindness, compassion, and ability to connect made it possible for me to comfortably continue the necessary treatment.
Your care and thoughtfulness radiate from the moment you walk into your office throughout the entire session, and that same warmth is always present in all of your communication.
Since I don’t have access to Google reviews, I wanted to send this to you directly via email instead. Please feel free to post and share this text with other Haven PT and Pelvic Health clients, as I want people to know about your care so they can benefit from it, too.”
— With deep gratitude, Laura L.
What to Expect
I'm the sole provider here at Haven PT, and I'll be with you from your first phone call through your final session. Every session takes place in a private treatment room, and your comfort is the top priority.
Your initial session includes a robust discussion and comprehensive physical examination that looks at multiple systems of the body (musculoskeletal system, nervous system, urogenital system, visceral system) and may include an internal pelvic floor examination. Internal pelvic floor examinations are considered the gold standard of pelvic floor care, but will only ever be performed with your full consent.
Your first visit is scheduled for two hours and includes time for both examination and treatment. Follow-up visits are one hour long, and mini examination are performed each session to track progress and ensure the plan of care continues to be best suited for your needs.
How Treatment Works
-
Where We Begin
Treatment begins at your first session and can include a number of different interventions including manual work, corrective exercise, nervous system regulation strategies, lifestyle modifications, education, and modalities such as cupping, e-stim, and dry needling based on your symptoms and specific needs.
-
Manual Therapy
Manual therapy is one of the cornerstones of my care. Techniques may include visceral mobilization, balancing uterine ligaments, improving biomechanics, creating space for the growing womb, and easing tension in the abdominal and pelvic tissues.
-
Movement
While manual therapy is powerful, movement is medicine—and it’s equally essential for long-term resolution of symptoms. During our sessions, you will be coached through corrective and progressive exercise to help build strength, support posture and breath mechanics, and promote optimal pelvic floor function.
-
Home Program
Lastly, you’ll be given a realistic home program that includes exercises, symptom management strategies, and lifestyle modifications to complement your sessions and promote progress between visits.
The total number of sessions required depends on your specific presentation, but clear communication about outcomes and expectations starts at our very first session together, and you are always an active participant in the process. You will always know how things are progressing, you will understand the purpose of every intervention, and you will always be encouraged to share your concerns and ask any questions.
Frequently Asked Questions about Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy
-
An exam from a Pelvic PT may entail an internal examination of the pelvic floor musculature and local organs and tissues either by a vaginal or rectal approach. This provides information to rule in or out pelvic floor dysfunction and helps provide the best treatment plan possible.
-
Absolutely! An internal exam is recommended because it gives us the most information about what is happening, but it is not required. You can always decline, and if you accept but change your mind partway through, we can stop at any point. I will walk you through exactly what we are doing and why, and if you decide to decline the exam we will continue your evaluation using the other information and assessment methods available to us.
-
Nope, no need to reschedule. Being on your period can actually provide useful information in some cases. If you’d rather skip internal work that session, that’s completely fine. We can shift to external techniques and adjust the session around what feels best for you.
-
Pelvic floor therapy is so much more than kegels. Before we do anything else, we want to determine if Kegels would even be indicated for your specific type of pelvic floor dysfunction. If the answer is yes, we would assess if you have been doing them correctly. More often than not, treating pelvic floor dysfunction requires more than strengthening the pelvic floor, which is why Kegels alone often don’t resolve symptoms. Long-term resolution of symptoms requires an approach that identifies what system(s) is/are affecting the pelvic floor, and correcting the function outside the pelvis.
